Paintings Installed in Local Greenpoint Restaurant

I was leaving my building last month and I ran into the owner of a new restaurant that was opening up on my street. We got to talking and he mentioned that he could use some paintings in his new place. That weekend, I installed ten paintings in the Cinamoon Restaurant. If you are in the neighborhood you should definitely check my artwork out and get a cheap and hearty meal. I ate there several times and they offer heaping portions of Polish/American food at very reasonable prices.

Cinamoon Restaurant is located in Greenpoint-664 Manhattan Ave (between Bedford Ave & Norman Ave),
Brooklyn, NY 11222. Telephone: (718) 383-1393.

Piles of Paint

Another cool thing about open studios is that you get to meet many new people. At the Greenpoint Open Studio two weekends ago, I ran into photographer Scott Nyerges. He was very interested in the pile of dried up paint that is collecting on my glass palette and took some quick shots. You could check out more of these abstract paint photos on his Web site: www.scottnyerges.com

I plan to keep adding onto the pile until it reaches the three feet mark. It will be part of a sculpture where a paint covered plastic moose will sit at the peak. It will probably take me a couple of years to finish the paint hill, but that it is part of the fun of it.

Greenpoint Open Studios

This past weekend, all the artist studios were invited to open their doors in the Greenpoint art community. I didn't hear about it, until a little late in the game, so I was not on the official roster of studios, nor did I have a chance to contact many people about it. But I have to say that it was a great experience!

A ton of people visited my space on 255 Calyer Street. Even with the rainy weather on Sunday, I had a pretty good turn out. Many of the visitors were pleasantly surprised that there were artists working right next to where they went grocery shopping every week (at the Key Food next door)! I hope they do this again next year!

Brooklyn Museum Staff Show 2009

The Brooklyn Museum gave its employees a great opportunity to share our artwork and creative pursuits with each other. We were all invited to participate in a staff exhibition this Spring. Not surprisingly (working at a Museum), a lot of my colleagues make art- the exhibition had over sixty participating artists! There was even a closing reception that took place during May's Target First Saturday (May 2nd). I even had the opportunity to meet the Museum's 1st Fan Members and talk about my exhibited painting.

Below are two images: the first image is of my painting and the second is an installation view of the gallery.

Recent Paintings from 2008

Below is a selection of artwork made last year. They include the drawing, The Red Monster, a sharpie ink drawing that is influenced by Albert Bierstadt's A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, 1866; two new space paintings; a very sun brunt version of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain; and a depiction of a Volcano near Antigua, Guatemala.
